A Day at Paignton Zoo
When did you last visit a zoo? Most of us haven’t been since we were children or since our children were very young but zoos everywhere are evolving and adapting and Paignton Zoo is at the very forefront in being a centre for conservation and knowledge sharing and improving the lives of animals around the world. In addition to what you normally expect to see at the zoo (animals!) Paignton offers a variety of ’experiences’ for you to choose from including ’Zoo Keeper For A Day’ and ’Feed the Rhinos’ to name just two. These experiences are not cheap but entry to the whole zoo is included in the price and the money that you pay is not only supporting this wonderful zoo, it’s being used to help fund conservation in other parts of the world too. We are very proud extremely proud of Paignton Zoo and it makes a great day out for all the family.

Gin has exploded in popularity and diversity in recent years and we all know roughly what it’s made from but not so many of us know how it’s made. So here’s a chance to see how it’s made and even better - you get to make your own bottle of gin to take home with you at the end! It’s a two hour experience, full of information and interesting facts and you get to sample a wide selection of gin and botanicals. An unusual experience and one that Gin appreciators will love. Runs from Wednesday to Saturday but numbers are limited so do book well in advance.
Located at xxxxxxx you can get bus no xxxx from Strand to xyxyxy (which runs approx every xx minutes) because why ruin the experience by being the designated driver?

Fish and chips is something that we all take for granted... we all know that someone has to go out and catch the fish but what happens after that? That’s where it gets really interesting! Brixham Fish Market is only 8 miles from us but it’s the largest in value fish market in England. You can do the Rockfish Tour which kicks off at 6.20 am and finishes with a delicious breakfast that’ll set you up for the day. Tickets cost £25 which includes the breakfast and profits have been supporting the Fishermen’s Mission for 11 years. A worthy cause and a great experience. Tickets are limited to 25 per tour so do make sure to book well in advance. You must be at least 14 years old.

So, many of us probably know that the amazing Agatha Christie wrote dozens of books, was born in Torquay (in 1890) and that she owned Greenway, her much visited holiday home (now owned by the National Trust) but what else is there to know? Well loads actually! And the best thing of all to do is an actual tour and that’s where Unique Devon Tours comes in.
You get a fabulous day out following in the footsteps of Agatha Christie. It includes many of Agatha’s favourite places including various beaches, the pier, the Pavilion and lots of locations she used in her books. Later in the day a visit to Greenway is in order, Agatha’s beautiful holiday home, and naturally the day ends with a traditional Devonshire cream tea!
I must admit I came late to Agatha Christie, although I think my mother had most of her books, somehow I never got round to reading any of them until last year. What was I doing?! So now I know what all the fuss was about and I have become a fan! Incredibly, though dead more than 40 years (she died in 1976) she still sells more than three million books a year worldwide, has sold more than 2 billion books and is the most widely translated author in history (103 languages to date). Agatha is truly a phenomenon and Torquay is rightly proud of its daughter! Gone from us she may be but never will she be forgotten!
